Phuket is famed for the awe inspiring limestone sculptures that rise out of the emerald waters of Phang Nga Bay, of which James Bond Island, is perhaps the most famous. This is truly one of the world’s most extraordinary seascapes. Take a dinghy and explore the amazing ‘hongs’ or caves, or rent a longtail boat to take you between the beautiful islands of Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh, where you can visit Maya Bay made famous in the movie The Beach.

In fact, there are so many stunning anchorages that each night brings new adventures from a moonlight swim to a sunset walk along an isolated beach. Buy fish from local fishermen to enjoy on the yacht’s BBQ or have it prepared onboard by your chef. Snorkeling here is exceptional with stunning coral reefs and if you anchor next to one of the many uninhabited islands and swim from the beach you will find the rainbow coloured fish so near to the surface that you can touch them.

Phuket itself is an exotic mix of exclusive resorts, restaurants and nightlife – in complete contrast to the cruising, where the isolated beaches and verdant islands create a paradise for nature lovers.

The appeal of the Andaman as a yacht charter location is obvious – most of its picturesque islands, are only accessible by boat. However for those dedicated enough to cruise out to the continental shelf, near the Similian Islands, there is some fantastic game fishing and the lure of the famous Black Marlin. The Andaman Sea is still an undiscovered gem for all cruising yachts.
